Exciting workshop opportunity!!!

March 3rd 2012

Great news!!!!! Yukihiro Sekiguchi, Hiro, is offering to do private, semi-private and group lessons Sunday, March 11th at Gary’s. Please private message me if you are interested. A 45 minute private is $30, a 2 hour group lesson is $45. He speaks primarily Japanese but expresses himself well when teaching if you are patient. This is a great opportunity to learn from an established judge and dog trainer. He has been an official Judge for Skyhoundz World Championships since 2008, he is the HyperfliteJapan representative and a college professor teaching about dog and animal training. Hiro also has a dog training school where he teaches obedience and frisbee. Please message me right away at discdogempire@gmail.com. I think spots will fill up FAST!

New disc dog family?

April 29th 2011

David, LylaClare and Julia met a great family with a Staffie tonight when practicing in the park. They were very interested in David’s instructions to get started in disc dogging. They are excited to start the prep work for disc dog. Hope they come out to the play day this Sunday to take it to the next level…catching! So exciting to see people who want to, as Kyra Sundance says, “do more with their dog”

Jam Camp Fun! Saturday’s fun

January 30th 2011

East L.A? Really? Yes, and it was great fun and great weather. Lots of new throws and theory’s.  So many superstars of Freestyle were there to play and teach. The big take away lesson seemed to be, what ever the throw, make it your own! Ember, LylaClare, David, Nate, Michael, and our visitor and honorary member Laura from Canada rotated through the learning groups adding to their skill all day. Our lunch potluck was such fun bonding time too!  Put Jam  Camp 2012 on your schedule now! January 14th and 15th.  Disc Dog Empire will be there again!  Thanks Tita for organizing it!  http://freestylejamcamp.us/

What a great ‘Friendship and Fun Day’ we had!

January 11th 2011

Yesterday, 1-9-11 was the first fun day of the year and what a great way to kick off the year. We started with some dog and people socialization and then lots of toss and fetch for the dogs. We then discussed the importance of having your dog connected with you even when they are excited and focused on the disc. We also discussed the value of your dog knowing that when you point, the dog should look ‘out there’ not at the tip of your finger. To work these skills we practiced one of the ‘tricks’ in our new game invented by Steve. The trick is called “Directed Retrieve.” The idea is that the handler puts out 3 discs and directs the dog to retrieve the disc of the handlers choice. We let the handler put the discs as close or as far as they choose because it is important to set the dog up for success when learning a new skill. The dogs amazed all of us! Lots of laughs and cheers as we watched our brilliant dogs. The fun was followed by a group picture. After lots of giggling and jumping dogs I think that Michael and Steve worked together and got at least one shot. It is exciting to see the web site take shape and a new group picture will help. We were missing quite a few of our usual teams but we look forward to seeing you all at “Jam Camp” next weekend or the next scheduled “Friendship and Fun Day” on 1-29. Keep a look out for changes to the web site and for the calendar updates as we schedule out fun days. Julia

Jam Camp this weekend. R U ready???

January 11th 2011

So who’s coming to Jam Camp this weekend??? This is one of your only chances to team up with some of the best Freestyle Frisbee Competitors and learn their secrets, better your throwing techniques and just have a great time playing Frisbee. Supposed to be nice weather (mid 70′s).
